  • The project, which involves the replacement of 40 wind turbines, represents an investment of €36.3 million and will increase the facility's annual electricity generation to 83.9 GWh, up 78.5%.
  • The works are being carried out through the special purpose vehicle (SPV) Sistemas Energéticos Mañón Ortigueira SA (96% owned by Endesa through its subsidiary Enel Green Power España and 4% by INEGA) and have been awarded up to €6.79 million in funding by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), under the EU-funded Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan

Endesa has recently begun repowering works at the Coriscada wind farm, located in the Galician municipalities of Mañón and Ortigueira. The project involves a total investment of €36.3 million and is expected to be completed during 2027.

The repowering works, which will be carried out through the special purpose vehicle (SPV) Sistemas Energéticos Mañón Ortigueira SA (96% owned by Endesa through its subsidiary Enel Green Power España and 4% by INEGA), include the dismantling of 40 wind turbines (with a combined capacity of 24 MW) that have been operating since 1998 and their replacement with four state-of-the-art turbines, each with a capacity of 7 MW. This will bring the total installed capacity to 28 MW, although the grid export capacity will remain at 24 MW.

Through this initiative, Endesa will not only reduce the number of visible wind turbines but also technologically upgrade the facility, making it more efficient and safer to operate. As a result, the wind farm's annual electricity generation will almost double, increasing from 47 GWh/year to 83.9 GWh/year.

Some of the dismantled wind turbines will be reused as spare parts at other existing Endesa wind farms or at wind farms sold to third parties, ensuring their reuse without generating waste, extending their useful life and creating added value. Any components that cannot be reused will be fully recovered through waste valorisation processes.

Similarly, efforts have been made to encourage the use of new turbine technology manufactured entirely within the European Union, helping to maintain employment within the euro area.

The project will rely on specialised workers, promoting the recruitment of local labour and Galician companies for a range of activities, both during construction and throughout the operational phase. In addition, Endesa, in coordination with the local councils of Mañón and Ortigueira, will organise training courses on the operation and maintenance of renewable energy facilities.

The project has been included in the second call for investment grants for the repowering of wind power facilities, the technological and environmental modernisation of small hydropower plants of up to 50 MW, and innovative wind turbine blade recycling facilities (the "Circular Repowering Programmes"), under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. Specifically, the works have been awarded €6.79 million in funding by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).

The Coriscada wind farm is expected to begin its testing phase in late 2027 and enter full operation in March 2028.
