Endesa has inaugurated its first 300 kW ultra-fast charger hub on the A-2 motorway

• The new hub is located in the town of Fonolleres in the province of Lleida, within the Eurotrak service area, in the geographical centre of Catalonia. It consists of 6 charging stations of which three are 300 kW ultra-fast chargers which will enable the addition of 100 kilometres to the range of the vehicle in about 5 to 10 minutes* of charging time.
• The A-2 Motorway, one of the six radial motorways in Spain, serves as the gateway to the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe, and is a prominent road in Spain as it is the main link between the two main cities in the country: Madrid and Barcelona. 
• As part of the plan to deploy charging infrastructure, Endesa already has other ultra-fast charging hubs in key locations to make travel by road easier. These include the Andamur charging station in Guarromán (province of Jaén) and the Pozuelo de Alarcón charging station (province of Madrid). This new charging hub is also Endesa's second most powerful in Catalonia, after Endesa's installation at the Andamur service station in La Jonquera, with capacity for eight electric vehicles (4 charging stations each for 350 kW).
• Given the availability of high charging power stations, these installations are designed to make it easier to charge not only cars but also freight transport vehicles and they are located precisely on roads where heavy transport is also a vital component for logistics in Spain.
• As part of its public charging infrastructure development plan, Endesa has deployed a total of more than 5,600 charging stations of all technologies throughout Spain (more than 1,100 in Catalonia). Of the total, more than 600 stations use ultra-fast technology, with powers between 150 kW and 350 kW, and they are mostly located in areas close to main roads.

Endesa recently inaugurated its first ultra-fast charging hub for electric vehicles on the A-2 motorway, one of the six radial motorways on the Spanish road network, and which is located at the Área Eurotrak service point, in the town of Fonolleres (La Segarra), in the province of Lleida and at the geographical centre of the Autonomous Region of Catalonia. The location of the station is essential as it is the main transport route between two of the main cities in the country: Madrid and Barcelona. 

This new installation recently entered into service and consists of three 300 kW ultra-fast charging stations each with a double connector (two hoses), a total capacity for six vehicles and with the European CCS2 or Combo charging standard. These stations enable users to recharge the battery of their vehicles to provide an additional 100 kilometres to their range in just 5 to 10 minutes * (the time depends on the permissible charging power of the electric vehicle itself and the percentage of battery left when the recharging takes place). 

From the point of view of the distribution network, due to the high power of the installations (about 1 MW in total), they require a connection to the medium-voltage electricity grid and need to have their own transformer station. 

The new installation now operational at the Eurotrak Service Area is in addition to other ultra-fast charging stations that Endesa has already deployed throughout Spain and which, because of the availability of high power, have been designed to make it easier not only to charge electric cars but also heavy-duty vehicles used to transport goods, and they are located precisely on main roads where heavy transport is an essential feature of Spain's logistics.

A clear example is Endesa's charging station at Andamur la Jonquera with a total power of 1.4 MW (4 chargers of 350 kW each), which is the company's most powerful station in the Autonomous Region of Catalonia. There is also the Andamur service area in Guarromán (province of Jaén), with 4 chargers of 350 kW each, on the main road to Andalusia (A-IV), another of the six radial motorways in Spain, part of the European E-5 Route, and the main route for transport between the centre and the south of the Iberian Peninsula. Equally relevant is the hub of Pozuelo de Alarcón  (Madrid), which has a total of 30 charging stations, of which 20 are ultra-fast.

With the inauguration of this charging station, Endesa is fulfilling its commitment to facilitating electric mobility for all users, not only in cities with all types of charging station adapted to all types of uses in car parks, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, etc.; but also installing ultra-fast charging on main roads that enables users to be able to undertake long-distance trips without worrying about charging. In fact, as part of its public charging infrastructure development plan, Endesa has installed more than 5,600 charging stations throughout Spain, encompassing all technologies (more than 1,100 in Catalonia). The focus remains on further expanding the network by accompanying the market and providing recharging solutions where they are needed. 

For Manuel Muñoz, Endesa's Manager of Business Development, Sales and Marketing for electric mobility, "this installation represents a before and after for journeys along the A-2 in the section between Barcelona and Lleida, and between Barcelona and Zaragoza. Firstly, the total travel time can be equated to that of an internal combustion engine vehicle, since the time spent charging is greatly reduced because of the power available at these charging stations, and secondly, there is increased confidence with the availability of this type of ultra-fast charging along this strategic route. We are delighted that the Área Eurotrak service station has entrusted Endesa with this project. We believe that the project holds significant value due to the strategic location and the services offered in the area, ensuring a superior charging experience for users."

The Eurotrak Area Manager, Joan Balcells, added that the agreement reached with Endesa will make it possible to improve the present and future availability of the electric vehicle chargers necessary to supply vehicles that use this type of energy and that circulate throughout Spain. It also represents an important step forward in the strategy based on offering its customers services and equipment providing multi-source energy, thus responding to the demand for new energy solutions for sustainable mobility. In this regard, Área Eurotrak acts as a strategic communications and traffic point on the A-2 Motorway where 35,000 vehicles pass daily, connecting with main roads in the territory such as the C-25. 

How are the chargers used?

With regard to the charging process, booking, using and paying for the service can be done quickly and easily through the Endesa charging app. Users only need to download the app on their mobile phone and they will then be able to manage the charging of their electric vehicle directly from their phone (pay, book up to 15 minutes in advance, etc.) and also access tariffs that are adapted to all users, including monthly charging or pay-as-you-go tariffs to pay only for what is recharged.

The app is available on iOS and Android, and the user can register directly from their Facebook or Google account, or by e-mail. When customers register, they also enjoy unique economic conditions when charging as a result of the existing charging tariffs and they can create their own account with their preferences and payment methods which will make subsequent charging easier. In any case, the registration process to use the app is optional as it can always be used without prior registration and you can pay directly with a credit card, always through the app.

About Área Eurotrak

Área Eurotrak, located at kilometre point 513.8 of the A-2 motorway, in Fonolleres (province of Lleida), is a service area with a bar-restaurant, which acts as a strategic communications point on one of the main arteries of the A-2 that links Portugal with Europe, passing through Madrid and Barcelona, as well as being an important crossing point with the Transversal Axis (C-25), that connects Lleida with Girona. Area Eurotrak currently manages 140 parking spaces for lorries with trailers, 80 for cars and 5 for buses, spread over an area of 52,300 square metres, as well as a petrol station and a picnic area of 6,000 square metres.
