- The energy company will supply 60,000 MWh to the hotel chain through a 10-year PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)
- 30% of the energy will come from the portfolio of installations of Enel Green Power Spain, Endesa's renewable energy subsidiary, and 70% will be certified with Guarantees of Origin
As part of its sustainability policy focussing on minimising the impact of its activity on the environment, Hoteles Santos has signed a strategic 10-year contract with Endesa for 100% renewable energy to meet electricity requirements in all this Spanish chain's establishments, which will come into force next year, in 2023.
It is a long-term supply contract that includes a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which will meet 30% of the hotel company's energy requirements for the duration of the agreement. Part of the energy to be supplied will come from the portfolio of solar installations of Enel Green Power España, Endesa's renewables subsidiary, while the remaining 70% will come from renewable energy sources which will be certified with Guarantees of Origin.
These types of contracts are increasingly popular with companies, since they enable them to better manage their energy costs in the long term as they enjoy more stable prices in a very challenging situation such as the one we have been experiencing in recent months.
The total energy for the PPA amounts to approximately 60,000 MWh in 10 years, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 17,000 homes. With this implementation, Hoteles Santos will be able to avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 15,540 tons of carbon dioxide over the next decade, an amount that can be absorbed by 2,620 trees in 40 years.
Santos Hotels is undertaking this action under the direction of a Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Committee that was created in March for the purpose of organising, planning and implementing all measures with regard to sustainability and CSR, to raise awareness among all company's employees, customers and suppliers about the importance of being more effective and responsible on a day-to-day basis, with the ultimate goal of ensuring a better planet and greater commitment to the future.
