- The GARCÍA CARRIÓN group, a customer for more than 20 years, has once again put its trust in Endesa to support them in the decarbonisation process in which they are immersed with the aim of supplying all their production centres with 100% renewable energy.
- Firstly, GARCÍA CARRIÓN has changed the operating system for the management of its energy costs and opted for a long-term energy contract with 100% guarantees of renewable origin.
- Secondly, the owners of the famous brand DON SIMÓN, have also chosen Endesa X to undertake one of the most significant self-consumption projects in Spain: 9 installations, one in each production centre they have in Spain, with a total power of 18,164 kWp, which will enable them to meet about 30% of their energy requirements and avoid emissions amounting to about 8,300 tons/year of CO2.
- Practically 100% of the energy will be generated by 33,637 photovoltaic modules, which will occupy a surface area equivalent to 13 football fields, and it will be self-consumed by the 9 plants and warehouses where they are being launched. As of today many of the permits have already been granted and the plants are expected to be started up gradually over the coming months.
- All this, together with the confidence placed in Endesa and Endesa X, will enable GARCÍA CARRIÓN to ensure that all the energy they consume or self-consume in their plants and wine-cellars in 2022 will be of 100% renewable origin.
The GARCÍA CARRIÓN group, the largest wine producer in Europe, 4th in the world and leader in the juice sector, chose Endesa and its subsidiary Endesa X to support them in the decarbonisation process in which this Spanish business group with more than 130 years of history behind it is immersed.
The GARCÍA CARRIÓN family is committed to a sustainable production model, offering the best products to consumers using the best raw materials both from their own plantations and as a result of long-term agreements with more than 40,000 local farmers. For GARCÍA CARRIÓN and its brand DON SIMÓN, the use of renewable energies and the fight against climate change are essential features supporting its 360º Sustainability Strategy. This strategy was recently acknowledged by the #PorElClima Community as a benchmark in innovation and for the use of the latest technology to reduce and neutralise its carbon footprint right along the value chain. With this objective in mind and because of the trust placed in Endesa after 20 years of commercial relationship, they signed an important agreement on 2 fronts:
Long-term supply contract
The instability in the energy markets that we have been experiencing in recent months caused many large consumers to choose to change how they manage their energy costs and to close longer-term energy contracts. GARCÍA CARRIÓN signed a long-term PPA that will be valid until 2032 with 100% renewable energy and with a flexible contract modality, an option increasingly acceptable to industrial customers as it will help them diversify the risk since they do not set the contract price on one single occasion (as is usual in many large industrial contracts) but on several occasions.
Self-consumption installations
With the aim of continuing to comply with its environmental commitments, but also in order to be more competitive, GARCÍA CARRIÓN put its trust in Endesa X, Endesa's energy services subsidiary, to undertake one of the most significant self-consumption projects in Spain.
Each of the 9 production centres will have its own photovoltaic solar installation by the end of the year. A total of 33,637 photovoltaic modules will be installed and they will occupy a surface area equivalent to 13 football pitches. They will produce a total power of 18,164 kWp, which will enable it to meet 30% of the energy it requires for its production processes with clean and renewable energy.
This commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency will enable GARCÍA CARRIÓN to make a qualitative leap with Endesa X and allow them to join the energy revolution: They will be able to reduce their carbon footprint by about 8,300 tons of CO2/year, taking a huge step forward in the decarbonisation process.
Smart monitoring
The self-consumption project undertaken on behalf of the GARCÍA CARRIÓN Group also includes Endesa X's Energy Management Service (EMS), which will enable the company to monitor the energy produced by the photovoltaic installations, the energy that is self-consumed and the savings generated, all in a simple way, once it has been implemented. This service also enables the company to view its consumption in real time, detecting anomalies, extra costs and deviations, and to study their causes, and with that information to design the measures required for these problems to be solved, which translates into a direct saving. The EMS does not only provide the client with data and who then has to interpret it, it also makes an analysis that enables informed decisions to be taken.
Endesa X also offers companies comprehensive advice throughout the process for managing existing support for self-consumption installations, which result in a significant reduction of the panel installation costs, making the return on the investment even more attractive. Endesa X manages these grants for its customers, as well as providing them with the advice they need to choose the best photovoltaic installation option.
