- Endesa X was awarded the tender called by this institution in Madrid and work is expected to begin this summer.
- More than 2,600 photovoltaic modules will be installed on the roofs of a number of buildings at the Complutense and this will provide a total power of 1.4 MWp.
- The solar energy produced by the solar panels will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 428 tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of planting 2,569 trees.
Endesa X will be responsible for building and starting up 14 photovoltaic solar plants for the Complutense University in Madrid, the largest in-person university in Spain, as a result of being awarded the public tender. This is how Endesa's energy services subsidiary will support the Complutense in one of its main challenges for 2023: To get started in solar self-consumption.
The installation of solar panels, which Endesa X plans to start this summer, will consist of 2,632 photovoltaic modules distributed on the roofs of a number of the institution's building, with a total power of 1.4 MWp. This will enable the institution to continue making progress in the reduction of its carbon footprint without any external dependency, starting along the path towards self-consumption. These installations will produce 1,952 MWh per year, which will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 428 tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of the absorption capacity of 2,569 trees/year, which will contribute to strengthening the position of the Complutense as a leading university with regard to sustainability in Spain according to the Greenmetric ranking.
No initial outlay
The planned investment is €1.3 million, but because of a novel formula adopted by Endesa X, the Complutense University in Madrid will not need to make any initial investment, because Endesa X will assume the cost of installing the self-consumption photovoltaic plant and this will enable the university to allocate its resources to other initiatives.
In this type of contract, a fixed price associated with the energy produced by the self-consumption installations is established and Endesa X will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and exploitation of the installed infrastructure during the 10 years of the contract. This type of agreement will enable this Institution in Madrid to increase its level of certainty about part of its energy costs for the duration of the contract. After ten years, the university will then fully manage its photovoltaic installation.
