- Forjas de Castilla's installations are in Almazán, a strategic location for the entire axis of Aragón, Soria, Navarra and La Rioja, and this is where 2 chargers for electric cars will be installed and open to the public: One with 300 kW and the other with 60 kW.
- Endesa X Way developed a turnkey project which means that the client, an industrial forge with 40 years of experience, will not need to worry about anything because it includes: The installation and start up, operation and maintenance.
- The chargers will be part of a public access network that Endesa X Way has created in Spain and which includes more than 4,600 charging stations, all with the same user experience and prices.
- Forjas de Castilla will be able to make these chargers profitable as soon as they start operating, foreseeably at the end of the year.
The location is ideal for the deployment of chargers for electric vehicles with public access. And this is why the agreement reached between Endesa X Way, Endesa's business line dedicated exclusively to electric mobility, and Forjas de Castilla represents such a huge difference compared to all the previous ones: A forge with 40 years’ experience in the industrial manufacture of wrought iron, stamping and machining parts that will open electric car chargers to all those driving along the Navarre Motorway (A15) as it passes through Almazán.
This was precisely the key point. The A-15 motorway is 165 kilometres long and passes through the town of Almazán, the second most populated town after the capital Soria. This represents a strategic intersection and an essential feature that graces the confluence between Aragón, Soria, Navarre and La Rioja.
With Soria just over 40 km to the north and the A2 (Barcelona motorway) to the south, the Forjas de Castilla installations will make an ultra-fast 300 kW charger available to electric car drivers. This will enable 80% of the battery to be recovered in just a few minutes and there will be another 60 kW charger with which it will take about 40 minutes to reach 80%.
These chargers located in Forjas de Castilla's installations will be open to the public 24/7. They will be included in the Endesa X Way charging app, so they will not be isolated but will be part of a network of chargers that Endesa X Way already has at the moment with more than 4,600 charging stations installed in Spain, of which more than 300 are ultra-fast chargers and the pricing policy will be the same as for the rest of the chargers.
The key factors for a company like Forjas de Castilla, whose main business is not electric mobility, which led them to decide to install chargers open to the public include the following:
- To be in a location where there is vehicle traffic.
- For the business to have a contracted power that is sufficient to be able to supply the chargers and which will provide an income when they come into operation that will enable them to amortise the fixed costs (power term).
- They own the land or will have it under management for a period of time that is long enough to make the project profitable.
- Forjas de Castilla has a large solar panel installation which will enable it to provide much of the energy used in recharging.
"For a long time now we have believed that electric mobility is the way forward. Furthermore, due to the nature of our industrial processes, we have hours when the energy produced is not consumed, so we have electrical power. We saw the opportunity to convert a fixed cost into a source of income," said Cármelo Gómez Pastor, from Forjas de Castilla.
"Endesa X Way supports the customer throughout the process and adapts the business model to the partner. It is a turnkey project, from pre-installation work to the start up. But precisely because this is our business, in which we have more than ten years' experience, we operate and maintain the chargers; we provide all the commercial support and our platform so the chargers can be included in our infrastructure network", added Manuel Muñoz, Endesa X Way Sales and Marketing Manager.
Enabling electric mobility
Endesa X Way is the leading company in Spain with regard to electric mobility services: Not only does it have the broadest network of charging stations (more than 4,600 charging stations installed), but it is also the most powerful: 45% of chargers have more than 50 kW, compared to an average of 20% for the rest of the market.
In collaboration with partners such as Forjas de Castilla, the objective is to focus on expanding the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in response to the needs of electric mobility, a market that continues to grow. At the same time, there is ongoing development in advanced electric vehicle charging technologies and flexible solutions to improve the customer experience, both for private consumers, as well as companies, cities and public administrations.
