New electricity bill 2021

Electricity tariffs are undergoing certain changes in 2021, specifically the tariff part (access tariffs). These changes are intended to move towards more sustainable energy consumption. Endesa is with you on this journey.

What are the tariffs and charges?

Changes to electricity tariffs only affect part of your bill: access tariffs.

They are a part of your bill and are intended to pay what it costs to get the electricity to your home, as well as other costs related to the electrical system.

As at June 2021, a new regulation enters into force that changes the way they are calculated and implemented. The access tariffs are separated into two new concepts:

  • transport and distribution tariffs set by the CNMC, intended to cover the cost of the networks.
  • charges set by the Government to cover other costs of the electricity system included in your bill, including the remuneration of renewable energies and the cost of generating energy in non-mainland territories.

The regulation that enters into force on 1 June 2021 is: (1) Circular 3/2020 of the Spanish Markets and Competition Commission establishing the methodology for the calculation of electricity transport and distribution tariffs, (2) Royal Decree 148/2021 of 9 March of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge establishing the methodologies for calculating the charges for the electricity system, (3) the CNMC Resolution of 18 March 2021 establishing the values of access tariffs to applicable electricity transport and distribution networks from 1 June 2021 and (4) Order TED/371/2021 of 19 April, of the MITERD, setting prices for electricity system charges and capacity payments that apply from 1 June 2021.

Why are the tariffs changing?

The main objective of the new changes in electricity tariffs are:

  • Encourage savings through more efficient use of electricity: 3 different time periods have been established for energy consumption at different prices throughout the day.
  • Facilitate night-time recharging of electric vehicles: 2 different time periods have been established for the contracted power.

These changes do not have to affect your pocket or your peace of mind. At Endesa we offer personalised advice to adapt to the tariff changes.

How to adapt to tariff changes?

If you are already an Endesa customer, we give you personalised advice so that you can save.

What changes?

The vast majority of people have a contracted power of less than 15 kW. If you have more than 15 kW of power, check out our content on tariffs and charges for powers over 15 kW.

This new access tariff and charge structure involves changes in 3 key aspects:

  • 1. All consumers will now have time-of-use periods with new time periods.
  • 2. You can contract 2 different powers instead of one.
  • 3. Tariffs 2.0 and 2.1 have been renamed 2.0TD.

Previously there were 1, 2 or 3 time periods for the energy you consume (kWh) and the same contracted power for all hours of the year.

There are now 3 time-of-use periods for the energy you consume and you can contract 2 different powers (one for off-peak hours and one for peak hours).

Changes in electricity energy charges in 2021

The energy charge is the part of your bill that depends on how much electricity you use. Logically, it varies every month depending on your use.

One of the new features introduced by the new tolls is that their price varies depending on the time of day in which you consume electricity, that is, they incorporate time discrimination for all consumers.

The energy term for the tolls establishes 3 time bands, that are calledoff-peak (the cheapest hours), standard (intermediate price) and peak (most expensive hours). Winter/summer schedules have also been unified and a small time change has been introduced for the specific case of Ceuta and Melilla.

Changes in the charges for power contracted in 2021

Your contracted power sets the limit of your electrical installation. The number of appliances you have running at the same time depends on that limit.

The higher the power, the more appliances you can have running at the same time without the power switch tripping (popularly referred to as the " trip switch").

Before this new regulation, your contracted power was the same and cost the same at all times of the year. Now two contracted powers have been established with two different time bands (peak and off-peak) and also two different prices (cheaper in off-peak hours). So you can now contract a higher and lower power or keep the same power in the two new time bands (peak and off-peak).

As at 1 June 2021, you will maintain the same power as you previously contracted by default. It will be the same in the two new periods (peak and off-peak), but you can change this power at any time:

  • In the following 12 months you will be able to contract different powers for these two time bands up to two times and at no additional cost, providing the new contracted power is the same as or less than the highest of the two contracted powers when the change is made, otherwise you will have to pay the cost of connection rights in accordance with the regulations in force.
  • The power contracted at peak times must always be equal to or greater than the power in off-peak times.

We give you 2 practical examples to take advantage of this new possibility:

  1. Be more efficient: if you are able to concentrate your use of appliances (washing machines, oven, air conditioning, etc.) at night and during weekends (off-peak hours, which are the cheapest), you will be able to choose a higher power in off-peak times and lower at peak times. This will result in you being able to save on your bill.
  2. Recharge your electric car: the new power times are ideal for those who recharge their electric vehicle at night or on weekends and public holidays.

What do you have to do?

The new transportation and distribution tariffs and the new charges will have new conditions and prices, which will be reflected in your bill. This update only affects the regulated concepts, and here at Endesa we will do it automatically, without the need for any further paperwork.

What does this change mean for you More savings opportunities:

Power:

Your bill will show that you used to have one power and now you are going to have two. Off-peak power and peak power.

By default on your first bill you will have the same power you have now both at peak times and at off-peak times.

However, if you wish, you can request that your power be changed for one or both of the time bands. You can do this from your Endesa Client Area.

Consumption:

If you are on the Endesa Unique tariff, your personalised monthly fixed fee will not change and everything will stay the same.

If your tariff is one of the Tempo Happy modes, you will still have your free electricity hours like before.

If you were on the One Luz Nocturna tariff or another time-of-use tariff: you used to have 2 periods and now, to adapt to the new regulations, you have 3 periods to be more efficient and to save. We present One Luz 3 periodos, your new Endesa tariff.

The rest of Endesa's tariffs have been adapted to the new regulations.

With the new 2.0TD tariff, you can contract two powers without having a different tariff model according to the kW. A unified access fee is applied for powers below 15kW.

These name changes, included in 2021, are intended to make it easier to understand the concept of electricity tariffs in new electricity rates.

Remember that electricity tariffs are applied in both the power and consumption charges, so it is advisable to adjust your electricity tariff to optimise the price according to your needs and lifestyle.

The 2021 electricity bill with the new tariffs

New electricity tariffs change the rates, but your bill doesn't necessarily have to be affected.

✔ The access tariff is detailed on your bill and is reflected in its new name 2.0TD.

✔ The cost of the new electricity tariffs are broken down in your  bill, in both the power section  and in the energy consumed section.

For more information about any of the sections of your bill, go to the We Are Here To Help section, where we explain how to understand your Endesa electricity bill.

For more information on these regulatory changes, you can consult the CNMC website.
