The Copa del Rey has brought us so many unforgettable moments, with basketball bringing to life the dreams of adults and children alike. Such moments often reveal the charitable side of the tournament's biggest stars. A number of youthful broadcasters from Radio Pelona, a radio initiative for children battling childhood cancer, stole the limelight in one such magical moment from the Copa del Rey 2019.
Quique, Alonso, Mateo, Jesus and Lucas were the fresh-faced broadcasters who grilled Nico Lapapittola (Divina Seguros Joventut), Marcelinho Huertas (Kirolbet Baskonia), Jaime Fernández (Unicaja), Facundo Campazzo (Real Madrid), Darío Brizuela (Movistar Estudiantes), Javier Beirán (Iberostar Tenerife) and Kyle Kuric (Barça Lassa) in a singular and entertaining press conference.
During the press conference held in the Basket Lover room, set up by Endesa, the young Radio Pelona presenters made each of the stars promise to perform scoring celebrations, reveal childhood secrets and discuss the magic of the Madrid derby, which takes place this Friday between Real Madrid and Movistar Estudiantes, with stars from each team, Brizuela and Campazzo, taking part in one of the highlights of the afternoon.
Organised by the 'Uno entre cien mil' Foundation, the only NGO in Spain to channel all fundraising towards an annual research project aimed at combatting childhood leukaemia, Radio Pelona captured the limelight when the teams arrived in Madrid ahead of the Copa del Rey game. The interviews conducted by the five children on Radio Marca, with the support of journalists Pablo Juan Arena and Eduardo Schell, proved once again that basketball and sport are an endless source of magical moments.
It was an unforgettable experience for both the children and players, getting the Copa del Rey off to a truly humanitarian start. The competition is already a huge story thanks to Radio Pelona and its fun, curious and impromptu little journalists. They too will be the stars in Madrid.
