Sport and culture should be available to everyone regardless of their starting point. That is why Endesa had a meeting yesterday at the Caja Mágica in Madrid with the Rafa Nadal Foundation and the Real Madrid Foundation for a sports-cultural forum in which more than 30 youngsters participated.
The beneficiaries of the Real Madrid Foundation's Inclusive Basketball Schools and the beneficiaries of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Madrid yesterday took part in a forum entitled "Sport and Culture for All" with the aim of promoting sport and culture among the children being attended to in their projects.
The session began with a basketball training session led by sports technicians from the Real Madrid Foundation and with the support of the Rafa Nadal Foundation team, and which involved the children being able to undertake physical activity together. Sport is an excellent instrument for socialisation as it enables social integration and it is a tool that these entities use in their daily activities.
The association for the promotion of the YMAS theatre was responsible for organising a music therapy activity, a technique created to improve people's mental health and emotional well-being. In this dynamic it has been shown how music is capable of transforming people positively. It specifically works on the capacity for expression and relationship with others.
According to Eunate Gómez, Head of Projects at the Rafa Nadal Foundation, "Here at the Rafa Nadal Foundation, we believe in the transformative power of sport and education, which is why we try to promote initiatives for children to be able to incorporate this type of activities into their daily lives and for it to have a positive impact on their personal development and well-being. The "Sport and Culture for All" Forum was a real success thanks to our commitment and that of an organisation of the stature of the Real Madrid Foundation and Endesa, one of our most important allies"
Ricardo Gallego, ambassador of the Real Madrid Foundation, pointed out that "sport, as we have seen in this activity, is a great tool for inclusion and social integration. We believe that actions like today's are very important and we thank Endesa for bringing us together with the Rafa Nadal Foundation to bring quality educational sport to everyone".
According to Ignacio Asensi, Head of Sponsorships at Endesa, "in our company we are certain that we have to be able to bring well-being to society. And especially to children, youngsters and all those who have not had easy to access sport and to enjoying culture and music. Endesa has been supporting both and in the case of basketball, for more than ten years, because our sponsorships have purpose and meaning: We are convinced that real progress is made when it reaches everyone and basketball and music are two of the best tools to achieve this."
Endesa has been collaborating with the Real Madrid Foundation's social, sporting, adapted and inclusive schools both inside and outside Spain for 13 seasons. The Real Madrid Foundation's basketball schools adapted for people with different abilities in Spain have this season organised 15 projects with 285 beneficiaries for children and young people who practice educational sports weekly.
Twelve months ago Endesa and the Rafa Nadal Foundation also inaugurated the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in San Fermín, in the Usera neighbourhood in the south of Madrid, with a view to attending to about 100 children at risk of social exclusion and their families through sports, educational and psychosocial support activities. The Rafa Nadal Foundation has been developing this same project for nine years in Palma de Mallorca and for almost four years in Valencia. In both cities, activities focus on disadvantaged areas and people at risk of social exclusion, attending to over 400 children a year.
