The total installed capacity now reaches nearly 4 GW, accounting for almost 50% of the total capacity registered across Spain.
The active installations in e-distribución's grid generate enough power to supply two million homes and prevent the emission of 3.2 Mt of CO₂.
The number of supplies from collective self-consumption installations has increased 3.5 times in a year, reaching 17,000.
Self-consumption supplies connected to Endesa’s distribution grid grew by 34% in 2024, reaching 333,500 by year-end and maintaining its leadership in the sector in Spain. Throughout the past year, Endesa’s distribution subsidiary, e-distribución, connected 85,300 new self-consumption supplies, averaging over 1,600 per week. This growth has been driven by the implementation of various measures aimed at simplifying the administrative process and improving customer information.
The most significant increase was recorded in collective self-consumption supplies, which surged 249% to 17,000. This means adding more than 12,000 new contracts compared to the end of 2023. Meanwhile, the number of individual self-consumption installations connected to Endesa’s distribution grid increased by 73,200 last year. It reached 316,500, a 30% growth compared to the end of 2023.
e-distribución, which manages the electricity distribution grid in Andalusia, Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, and parts of Extremadura, recorded growth in self-consumption activations across all regions. Andalusia leads with 153,700 self-consumption supplies by the end of 2024, 46% of all active supplies on e-distribución’s grids, representing a 22% increase from 2023.
Catalonia registered the highest number of collective self-consumption installations, exceeding 9,400. This accounts for 55% of all those connected to Endesa’s grid, with an annual growth of 79%. Extremadura saw the highest percentage increase, jumping from 11 to 517 active collective self-consumption supplies—an astounding 6,400% rise.
Aragon and the Balearic Islands each added 4,000 and 6,000 new self-consumption supplies, respectively, both registering an annual growth rate of 38%. The Canary Islands saw a 41% increase in self-consumption supplies.
By the end of 2024, the total power output from over 309,000 self-consumption installations connected to e-distribución’s grid reached nearly 4,000 MW (4 GW), marking a 13.5% increase over the year. This capacity, which represents almost half of Spain’s total connected self-consumption power, helps prevent 3.2 Mt of CO₂ emissions and can supply electricity to over two million households.
Streamlining administrative processes and further information
Improvements in self-consumption processing, including validation procedures and customer information services, have helped accelerate the commissioning of new installations.
The e-distribución website has been expanded and enhanced with additional resources and services related to the self-consumption application process. Customers can now access detailed information on self-consumption models, activation procedures, and a comprehensive FAQ section to guide them through the process. In the private customer area, users can track their self-consumption application status in real time and stay updated on each step of the process.
Additional improvements include enhanced online forms to simplify the submission of required documents and automated notifications to guide customers through the next steps of the application process. A dedicated phone line (900 920 974) exclusively for self-consumption inquiries has also been added.
One of the latest tools introduced on the e-distribución website is a TXT file validator designed to facilitate the submission of collective self-consumption documentation required by regulatory authorities. This tool identifies formatting errors in files, allowing customers to correct them before submission. Therefore, it reduces processing errors and avoids the need to restart the entire application process. This measure has proven highly effective in streamlining the approval of collective self-consumption installations.
