- The installation has a capacity of 719 kWp (kilowatt peak) that will allow the logistics centre to cover 16% of its annual energy consumption.
- The photovoltaic panels will provide an estimated annual saving of 80,000 euros and will prevent the emission of 1,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.
HiperDino, the leading food retailer in the Canary Islands and the only one in the region that is 100% based there, has put into operation one of the largest photovoltaic self-consumption installations on the islands with Endesa X, Endesa's energy services subsidiary, which will supply 100% renewable energy to its logistics centre in Telde, Gran Canaria. The photovoltaic plant has a capacity of 719 kWp (kilowatt peak), which will cover 16% of its annual energy consumption and will provide an estimated annual saving of around 80,000 euros and a reduction of 1,000 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to planting more than 40,000 trees.
The technical director, Rubén Molowny, stated that "at HiperDino we want to be a leader in terms of sustainability. This is why we have finalised the installation of this photovoltaic plant with 2,052 modules of 350 W each, after investing 600,000 euros. This is in addition to the series of measures we have implemented, mainly regarding refurbishments and new stores, using sustainable construction materials and incorporating LED lighting, temperature control systems, doors in refrigerating units and non-polluting refrigerant gases”.
For Davide Ciciliato, General Manager of Endesa X, "projects such as the one carried out for HiperDino, a leading retailer in the food sector and in a strategic territory for us such as the Canary Islands, help us to demonstrate how Endesa X is working alongside companies to help them make the necessary energy transition in terms of sustainability and digitisation, but to also do so efficiently from an operational and economic point of view".
Endesa X has carried out this project on a turnkey basis, which means that it has been responsible for the calculation, design, supply, transport, insurance, installation and start-up of the photovoltaic plant.

The HiperDino photovoltaic installation also includes an Energy Management Service (EMS), which will enable easy monitoring of the energy produced by the photovoltaic installation, the energy self-consumed and the savings made. This service also makes it possible to visualise the company's consumption in real time, detecting anomalies, cost overruns or deviations, studying their causes and designing the necessary measures to address them using this information, which translates into direct savings. The EMS does not simply provide the client with the data and let them interpret it, but also analyses it so that they can make informed decisions.
The photovoltaic plant, which is already fully operational, has a structure made of free-standing supports called Solarblocks that are made of concrete. In addition, the slope is 18º in relation to the horizontal surface of the platform's roof.
