- In just seven months, Endesa X has carried out the simultaneous construction and commissioning of two photovoltaic self-consumption facilities in its two plants in Spain (Burgos and Salas), with a total of 7.4 MWp of power, one of the most relevant self-consumption projects in its sector and in our country.
- In total, 16,500 photovoltaic modules have been installed, on an area equivalent to 5 football fields, which can generate 9.2 GWh/year of clean electricity and meet a major part of their energy needs.
- Endesa X has become a leading supplier for the wood panel manufacturer to help it in its own decarbonisation process: Kronospan will be able to reduce its carbon footprint by around 3,200 tons of CO2/year, equivalent to planting 282,000 trees/year.
- Kronospan has also recently entrusted Endesa with its new long-term contract for the supply of energy, closed at competitive prices, which includes energy from renewable sources and thus reinforces the commitment to sustainability of both companies.
- Kronospan manufactures and distributes wood-based panels, and has an important presence in the Iberian Peninsula.
Self-consumption is already a reality for Kronospan. The producer and distributor of wood-based panels, which uses advanced technology in its processes, chose Endesa X to start its commitment to the clean production of electricity. In just 7 months, Endesa X has built and commissioned one of the most relevant self-consumption projects in its sector and in our country: the installation of 7.4 MWp of power and 9.2 GWh/year of production in two of its production centres in Spain, Burgos and Salas.
This was a turnkey project, with the calculation, design, manufacturing, supply, transport, insurance, installation and commissioning of both plants, simultaneously in both locations.
More than 16,000 photovoltaic modules have been installed on an area of 36,000 m2, the equivalent of 5 football fields, which will meet a relevant part of the energy needs for it production processes with clean and renewable energy.
100% of the production of these facilities will be self-consumed by Kronospan.
This commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency will enable Kronospan to make a qualitative leap in tandem with Endesa X and join the energy revolution, thus embarking on its own energy transition: it will be able to reduce its carbon footprint by about 3,200 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to planting 282,000 trees per year.
In addition, Kronospan has recently signed a long-term electricity contract with Endesa, at competitive prices and which includes energy from renewable sources, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability of both companies, ensuring a supply at the highest standards of service quality and combining energy from the conventional grid when self-consumption is not enough with the generation of its own energy.
Davide Ciciliato, Managing Director of Endesa X, explained that "there is a firm commitment of large companies to the fight against climate change. The photovoltaic systems we have installed at Kronospan's facilities are a key element in reducing CO2 emissions during their production processes and are the best technology in the market for the self-production of energy from renewable sources. To create value, it is also necessary to respect the environment. To this end, Endesa X plays a vital role, thanks to its extensive knowledge and experience in decarbonisation and energy efficiency processes".
For the CEO and administrator of Kronospan, Francisco Javier Macicior, this investment in photovoltaic energy reinforces Kronospan's commitment to sustainability and clean energy, which it was already doing with the generation of thermal energy from biomass alone. In addition, the panels produced by Kronospan represent an important source of CO2 fixation, in a clear example of decarbonisation. Kronospan's commitment is undoubtedly to the circular economy, since 100% of its particle panels are manufactured with wood waste that, if not for Kronospan, would not be reused.
SGE, smart monitoring
The self-consumption solutions installed by Endesa X for Kronospan feature the Energy Management Service (EMS) platform, like all other self-consumption solutions developed by Endesa X, as a means to implement energy saving measures based on knowledge and the digitisation of energy efficiency. In addition to the ongoing monitoring and tracking of energy consumption, the solution implements a series of machine learning algorithms, so SGE can detect anomalies, additional costs or deviations in the consumption, monitor "ghost" consumption, control leaks or detect any other types of incidents automatically.
Therefore, Endesa X can conduct "virtual audits" of its clients, detecting potential areas for saving which would otherwise not be detected in an energy audit. Moreover, Kronospan can optimise its resources, use them with a more responsible approach and achieve a higher energy efficiency as a result.
