Endesa, through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power España (EGPE), has begun construction of its second solar project located within the perimeter of the Andorra thermal power plant. This is the Mudéjar photovoltaic plant, which will have a capacity of 69.2 MWp and an associated investment of €48.5 million.
The Mudéjar photovoltaic project, located on the former coal storage area of the Andorra thermal power plant and on the site of the now-closed Mas de Perlé landfill, will cover an area of 111.4 hectares and will have 126,504 crystalline technology photovoltaic modules with a fixed structure. These will generate more than 128 GWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of 32,000 households, avoiding the emission of approximately 52,196 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. The plant is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of 2024.
The construction of this project will generate more than 200 direct jobs, with peaks of up to 350 workers, at least 30% of whom will be local workers. Once operational, the facility will create 8 new permanent jobs for its operation and maintenance, and has an average useful life of 30 years.
In this way, Endesa is reinforcing its strong commitment to economic and employment recovery in the area. In line with this objective, renewable energy training courses are being developed with the aim of creating quality employment in the area and opening up career opportunities in an increasingly growing sector such as renewables, facilitating access to these opportunities for people at risk of social exclusion, the unemployed and women.
Sustainable Construction Site
The construction of this project is based on Enel Green Power’s "Sustainable Construction Site" model, including the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to cover part of the energy needs during construction and water-saving measures through the installation of tanks and rainwater collection systems. Once the work is completed, the photovoltaic panels and water-saving equipment, as well as the defibrillation equipment located at the construction sites, will be donated to the municipalities for public use.
In addition, Endesa is in contact with local associations that will collaborate during the construction of these facilities, providing another way for the renewable future to become part of everyone’s future.
Furthermore, for the construction of this solar farm, Enel Green Power España will use various innovative tools and techniques, such as drones for surveying, intelligent tracking, advanced digital platforms and software solutions to remotely monitor and support activities. These tools and solutions will enable faster, more accurate and more reliable data collection during construction activities, improving the overall quality of the construction process and facilitating communication between teams working both inside and outside the construction area.
The Mudéjar photovoltaic plant is Endesa’s second solar installation within the perimeter of the Andorra thermal power plant, following the commissioning last December of the Sedéis V solar farm, with a capacity of 49.71 MWp.
