Endesa X has now installed a total of 42 charging stations in Spain’s most beautiful villages

  • Since late 2020, Endesa X and the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain Association, which has 104 unique villages, have worked together to develop a universal electric vehicle charging infrastructure which is also powered by energy with renewable certificates.
  • The Association has now reached the total of 42 parking spaces reserved for charging electric cars in 13 of its villages.
  • All consumers need to do to use the chargers is download the Endesa X charging application, "JuicePass," and they can manage their electric vehicle charging directly from their mobile phone: to pay, book as late as 15 minutes in advance, etc.
  • With the participation of Endesa X, the association is hosting the 3rd Conference on Tourism, Innovation, and the Environment in Rural Spain in the Senate today. The event is being inaugurated by Francisco Mestre, President of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain Association, and Ander Gil, President of the Senate.

Endesa X is taking part today in the III Most Beautiful Villages in Spain (Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España, or LPMBE) conference, a new gathering focused on Tourism, Innovation and Environment in Rural Spain that is taking place in the Senate. Francisco Mestre, President of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain Association, and Ander Gil, President of the Senate, opened the event, which was also attended by Elena Bernárdez, Director of Electric Mobility at Endesa X.

Mayors, councillors, and technicians from the 104 municipalities, as well as other high-ranking officials from the Spanish Government, Spanish universities, and the business sector, have explored various ways of promoting our villages' rural history and addressing all of the difficulties that affect these beautiful villages and the rural world in one way or another.

In late 2020, Endesa X and LPMBE signed a collaboration agreement to install charging stations and to enhance these villages' appeal to tourists. The agreement helps to bring down greenhouse gas emissions — as nitrogen dioxide and particular matter are removed — so improving air quality, while also doing away with acoustic contamination (the charging stations hardly make any noise). It is also a good way to promote the local economy and look after the environment, as both residents and visitors of the most beautiful villages in Spain will have be able to recharge their vehicles.

This agreement is a further example of Endesa X's commitment towards making electrical mobility more democratic, allowing people to charge their vehicles not only in big cities but also in small towns and rural areas, putting sustainable mobility within everyone's reach.

Alquézar, Anento, Atienza, Briones, Caleruega, Candelario, Grazalema, Morella, Lucainena de Las Torres, Mogarraz, Morella, Rubielos de Mora, Segura de la Sierra, and Urueña have been the first to have charging infrastructure. They now also have 42 parking places with charging technology, 10 of which are already operational, so that residents and visitors can use them to charge their electrical vehicles.

At each station, semi-fast technology (22 kW) or higher can charge at least two electric vehicles at the same time, allowing users to have 80 percent of their battery charged in about 90 minutes, with a waiting period of roughly 30 minutes with fast technology.

For Davide Ciciliato, managing director of Endesa X, “With agreements like the LPMBE association, we are not only democratising electric mobility and introducing it to rural areas, but we are also promoting more sustainable tourism and partnering to protect iconic destinations like Spain's most beautiful villages.”

Francisco Mestre, president of the Association, says that, “around 40% of our towns have already agreed to participate in this programme, while we continue to get requests to install these electric charging stations at no cost to our town councils. It is clearly a boon for tourism and a significant step towards sustainable rural mobility, an excellent location for people seeking authenticity, without compromising air quality or noise pollution.”

How to use the chargers?

To locate and use the chargers, all users have to do is download the Endesa X charging app, “JuicePass”. The app allows drivers to arrange to charge their electric vehicles directly from their mobile phones (pay, reserve up to 15 minutes in advance, etc.) and also access monthly charging rates at discounted prices.

The app is available for both iOS and Android and you can register directly with your Facebook or Google account, or by providing an email address.   In addition, when registering, the user will be able to enjoy advantageous economic conditions when charging thanks to the existing charging rates, and it will allow them to create their own account with their preferences and payment methods, which will make subsequent charging quicker. In any case, the registration process is not mandatory and you can always choose to use it without prior registration and pay directly with your credit card.

About the Association

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, which already includes 104 unique towns and villages, was created to tell the whole world about the picturesque towns and villages to be found throughout the length and breadth of Spain. The objective is to promote small towns, preferably countryside villages, with a single quality brand, through promotional actions and cultural events that the association organises in Spain and abroad.  This network includes some stunning locations brimming with history, culture and character, traditional towns that travellers can explore on foot and mingle with the locals.

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain brand is a national and international benchmark of prestige and quality. The initiative is based on the French Les Plus Beaux Villages de France model and the Spanish version is part of and the current chair of the Federation of the Most Beautiful Villages in the World, which has networks in France, Italy, Belgium and Japan. Other countries such as Russia, Germany, Liechtenstein, Lebanon, Switzerland and Portugal are also creating new associations. The Association was created in Spain in 2011 and was launched two years later with a network of 14 villages. Since then, the list has grown to 104 towns and villages.
