- The growth in the market share in relation to households, small companies and industries consolidates the energy company's position as the second biggest electricity and gas operator in Portugal
- 50% of Portuguese customers who switched distributors in January chose Endesa
Endesa continues to increase its market share in Portugal, both for electricity and for natural gas, consolidating its position as the second operator in the country with over 600,000 customers between private individuals and companies. According to data published by the ERSE (Energy Services Regulatory Authority) relating to January this year (latest data officially available), Endesa achieved a market share of more than 10% for the first time in the residential sector, coming in at 10.4%, up by 0.7% month on month.
According to data from Portugal's regulatory body, this growth has been underlined by the fact that approximately 50% of customers who changed suppliers last January chose Endesa, making the company the distributor that captured the largest number of customers during this period.
In relation to the residential segment, Inês Roque, Endesa's Residential and B2C Business Director in Portugal, asserted that achieving a 10.4% market share "reinforces Endesa's commitment to our customers. Our strategy is structured around transparency, digitalisation and innovation, and we want to be a clear alternative for Portuguese consumers."
In turn, Juan Caturla, Endesa's Director of International Customers in the B2B business segment, emphasised that the "increase in our market share of small companies has increased to 21.6% and we have also strengthened our position in terms of industrial customers to 23.6%".
Endesa's commitment in Portugal was also consolidated just a few days ago after winning the Fair Transition tender in Pego, an ambitious and innovative plan that combines renewable sources and their storage in what will be the largest battery in Europe. Located in the Abrantes region, this project, on which the company has already started work, hybridises renewable technologies, storage and green hydrogen, all with a high social component and which will entail an investment of EUR 600 million.
