- The company, located in Mozárbez, in the province of Salamanca, is dedicated to the slaughter and quartering of pigs.
- The facilities will have a total power of 340 kWp and the equipment will installed on the slaughterhouse's co-planar roof, where the tilt has been used to install approximately 630 photovoltaic modules, covering an area of more than 1,200 m2.
- As part of this project, Mataderos Salamanca will expand its compliance with Scope 3 of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, a determining factor for suppliers when it comes to trusting the company's commitment to reducing their indirect emissions.
Endesa X has launched a self-consumption solar plant at Mataderos Salamanca, a company dedicated mainly to the slaughter and quartering of pigs and a sector leader in the province of Castile-Leon. Thus, Endesa's energy services subsidiary has designed and built a solar installation on the roof of the slaughterhouse located in Mozárbez that will allow the company to reduce the carbon emissions produced in its supply chain by 116 tonnes each year, equivalent to the absorption capacity of almost 700 trees/year. With the addition of zero kilometer solar energy, the company is continuing to extend its compliance with Scope 3, the voluntary category of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol associated with indirect emissions.
The solar photovoltaic plant constructed by Endesa X consists of approximately 630 photovoltaic modules on the co-planar roof of the warehouse and occupies an area of more than 1,200 m2. Specifically, the installation has a total power of 340 kWp and will generate approximately 500,000 kWh/year, covering 15% of its energy needs (electricity).
According to Jaime Villaverde, B2B manager at Endesa X in Castile-Leon, "Mataderos Salamanca's commitment to photovoltaic energy is a commitment to sustainability and the reduction of CO2 emissions that will help them continue to maintain the high degree of quality already in place and improve their competitiveness by fixing their costs, thus reducing their dependence on energy markets. The photovoltaic installation is a guarantee of autonomy and an inherent asset that will allow them to work with environmentally conscious customers who are looking for suppliers with a low carbon footprint. In short, it will position them at the front of a sector that is increasingly demanding better quality, not only when it comes to the product, but also as part of production processes".
In the words of Juan Manuel Vicente Pérez, manager at Mataderos Salamanca, "the installation of the panels is a commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, a step in reducing the carbon footprint. It is also an example for other companies in the meat sector to adopt sustainable measures, in addition to benefiting from the reduction in energy costs and improving profitability."
