Electricity and gas: two is better than one

The vast majority of us have set up electricity and gas services. Meanwhile, more than 25% of Spaniards own a holiday home. Therefore, we all need electricity and gas and one in four families need a second supplier for their homes.

So what's better? Having multiple suppliers, or having everything with the same one? Are there any advantages? We'll try to answer these questions.

The truth is that having two suppliers (one for each service) can have its advantages.

The first one is that you can try different services and compare which one suits you best. You can also choose the most beneficial one for you directly, without looking at the supply company.

However, managing this gets complicated. Having multiple suppliers means different communications, different tools and services, and different management resources... completely the opposite.

Perhaps if we're talking about efficiency and how to manage our supplies without losing our heads, the best thing to do is to have them with a single supplier, but which one?

Remember when you used to look at different companies and compare offers until you made up your mind? If it convinced you at the time, it's probably also the best option.

The good thing about having electricity and gas with the same company is that there are many things you don't have to learn about again. For example, using the app where you check your bills and consumption. A single provider, a single app.

Another benefit that can make life easier, and which we sometimes overlook, is that you no longer have to think about who you need to contact for anything. With a single supplier you also have a single point of contact for everything related to your energy.

Whether it's electricity or gas, you don't have to think about who you have a contract with. And if you're the type who knows how to get the most out of your smartphone, that's another added bonus. All the information you need to manage your contracts and check your bills in a single app.

You'll also be able to monitor your consumption and much more. Like, for example, knowing if you've left something plugged in at home when you go on holiday.

A beach house, one in the mountains, one in the village.... Even if we only live there for a short time, second homes give us a bit of life and, at the same time, double the number of contracts, as they also need electricity, gas and quality services.

Ideally, a holiday home should have a cheap electricity and gas tariff that's as cost-efficient as possible. As in your first home, but without losing sight of some important differences.

The main one is how we use them, with shorter stays and often within a specific period of time, usually weekends, bank holiday weekends and summer holidays.

For this reason alone, you may have a different electricity tariff in your holiday home than in your normal residence. That said, it's still worthwhile to have your electricity company provide you with gas as well.
