- The Chief Executive Officer of Endesa, José Bogas, the Chairman of the Association of Basketball Clubs, Antonio Martín, and the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Elisa Aguilar, presented today at the headquarters of the energy company the renewal until 2027 of their respective sponsorship agreements.
- Since 2011, Endesa has invested more than €100 million in supporting all Spanish basketball, both men's and women's, from the formative stages to club and national team competitions of all categories, as well as its social dimension.
- The event showcased the unity and understanding of three of the main stakeholders in basketball in Spain, who played a crucial role in this decade and a half of success and growth.
Under the slogan "Being a team means always being there" José Bogas, CEO of Endesa, Elisa Aguilar, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, and Antonio Martín, president of the ACB (Spanish Basketball Association) today at a press conference presented the three-year extension, until 2027, of Endesa's sponsorship agreements with the two leading institutions of Spanish basketball. These agreements confirm Endesa as the leading sponsor of basketball in Spain with a total investment of more than 100 million euros over the last 14 years, in terms both of financial support and activation and amplification initiatives. "Endesa cannot be understood without basketball, nor the success of Spanish basketball and its magnificent future prospects without the support of companies such as Endesa," Bogas summed up.
Under this agreement, Endesa will continue to lend its name to the major Spanish leagues: The Endesa League, the Endesa Women's League, the Supercopa Endesa, the Supercopa LF Endesa, the Copa de la Reina LF Endesa, and remain an official sponsor of the Copa del Rey. It will also remain a sponsoring partner of the Spanish men's and women's basketball team in all its categories and support grassroots sport, through the Minicopa Endesa and the Minicopa Femenina Endesa.
It will also step up its support of social projects such as Liga Endesa de Corazón, which, in partnership with the ACB, includes social action projects led by the community of basketball fans themselves; and Basket Girlz, which in tandem with the FEB, analyses the reasons for adolescent girls giving up basketball prematurely and proposes solutions for this problem.
With regard to the future, the three leaders, Bogas, Martín and Aguilar, affirmed that the common goal will be to make Spanish basketball even stronger through work and ongoing collaboration, innovation and promotion of the trailblazing spirit that is a feature of this sport. In this regard, Bogas emphasised that "we are in the best moment of collaboration between Endesa and basketball. Together with the ACB and FEB we have built one of the longest-running and noteworthy success stories in Spanish sport that we aspire to take even further over the next three years".
With this in mind, Endesa is committed to persisting with its strategy of sponsorship with a purpose, which aims to contribute to a better and fairer society through the support of sport as a life-enhancing tool, as well as forging alliances with other sponsor companies. Another feature will be the union of the two strategic pillars of Endesa's sponsorship, music and basketball, to create an even more spectacular experience for a larger audience.
Both Antonio Martín and Elisa Aguilar described the day as "a great day for Spanish basketball" while thanking Endesa for its firm and continuous commitment to sport. The president of the ACB described Endesa's commitment to basketball as "unique". "This renewal means that they will have been our partner for 16 years. We can only say thank you on behalf of all the clubs, for your trust, for your support in difficult times and for remaining by our side on this journey", he said.
The president of the FEB highlighted the symbolism of a press conference in which "we show not only a desire for unity, but also the alignment of wills that is behind our successes in recent years". Aguilar pointed out that Endesa "has become the home of basketball in its own right, with the impetus of an economic investment of inconceivable importance; but above all, with unconditional support that goes beyond the numbers".
The renewal of Endesa's sponsorship with its two partners marks the continuation of a story that began in 2011 with the signing of the first agreement in precisely the same room where the presentation of the extension of the collaboration agreements until 2027 was held this morning. In this time, Spanish basketball has won Olympic medals, world and European championships. Likewise, there have been 13 seasons of the very highest level in the Liga Endesa, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa Endesa, with unforgettable experiences, all-time records on the courts and record-breaking attendances in the venues. Women's basketball has gained in popularity with extraordinary progress achieved at both club and national team level. In addition, the number of federation registrations reached an all-time high in 2023: 273,000 men's registrations and 138,000 women's registrations, making basketball the sport with the most women registered in our country.
Milestones that belong to the whole of Spanish basketball, to which José Bogas wanted to pay tribute and thanks: "FEB and acb are the best travel companions we can imagine. Thank you for your commitment and for your courage. And thanks also to the entire ecosystem that makes up basketball, beyond ACB and FEB: clubs, players, referees, technical teams, the media and, of course, the fans, our basketball lovers. In short, thank you to basketball for giving us such good moments."
