Luka Doncic (Real Madrid) has received the 2018 Endesa Award from Borja Prado, Chairman of Endesa. The presentation took place at Endesa’s headquarters in Madrid. In his visit, Doncic spent time with a group of the company’s employees, for whom he signed autographs and balls. In addition, the employees were able to have a pleasant conversation and take pictures with the award winner.
The Endesa Award recognises the player in the Liga Endesa who best knows how to take advantage of energy to get the most benefit from it, combining the values of attitude, leadership, efficacy, generosity and commitment.
All of those values are well reflected in Luka Doncic, leader of Real Madrid, top finishers in the 2017-18 Liga Endesa. The Slovenian guard who is just 19 years-old averaged 13 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and an overall score of 18.9 in the Liga Endesa.
In his visit to Endesa’s headquarters, Luka Doncic expressed his feelings about the award received, saying, “this award means so much to me. The team has a part in all individual awards, so thank you very much to all of my teammates”, he added.
Despite being the youngest player to win the Endesa Award, the Real Madrid player reminded us that, “I’ve had a ball in my hands for my entire life. I started training at the age of seven, but I’ve been with the ball my entire life”. In spite of that, “the veterans on the team share much of the credit for how I handle pressure. They help me so much. They've already been through it”.
“Basketball is a very fun sport, it’s fun just watching...People need to become basketball lovers!”, he emphasised. And how is he as a basketball lover? “When I play best is when I’m having fun, when I’m having a good time on the court”. For that reason, “working as a team is essential. That’s how you win championships. This is one of the keys to winning”.
Finally, Doncic remarked that “Endesa is a great company. It is doing a really good job: it provides so much to basketball”.
