The 2025-26 Liga Endesa is finally here! With just three days to go until the Endesa Supercup in Málaga, which will officially kick off the acb competition this coming weekend, the new season was presented this Tuesday at Endesa's headquarters. The event, hosted by journalist Alejandra Llambés and comedian Sergio Bezos, was filled with humour and music, drawing over 700 attendees and a hundred accredited journalists.
José Bogas, CEO of Endesa, opened the presentation with excitement: 'Endesa is proud to welcome you to your home. On 5 October 2011, we presented the very first season right here, and though it's easy to say, 14 years have already passed. In that time, we have formed one of the most solid partnerships in Spanish sport.'
Antonio Martín, President of the acb, nodded in agreement: 'It is a historic bond between a brand and a property; there is no historical record like it.' Antonio Martín also took the opportunity to welcome DAZN ('They show enthusiasm and a different way of seeing basketball. We are very happy and very willing to learn') and to express his excitement for the brand-new Liga U: 'It is going to mark a turning point in the history of basketball, and I know we will be a benchmark for the rest of Europe.'
For his part, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, President of the National Sports Council, stated he was 'very excited for the new season. You are the best league in Europe, with great teams, clubs, coaches, and referees. The basketball family is an extraordinary one. Give us a great show!'
As if that weren't enough, Quim Doménech, DAZN's VP of Content, gave a sneak peek of what's to come, starting with the Endesa Supercup in Málaga. 'We are going to offer both semi-finals free-to-air for everyone.' 'We want to be distinguished by our own style—being authentic, digital, and putting the fan at the centre,' he added, revealing that Víctor Claver and Pablo Laso will be part of the broadcast team for the weekend.
Players, basketball, laughs, and music
From that point on, the stars of the show took the floor. 'The CNI [National Intelligence Centre] has given us some very privileged information on all of you,' joked Sergio Bezos with a smile, before a segment where every Liga Endesa representative had their moment, including special envoys Olek Balcerowski, with a message from Singapore, and Dylan Ennis, connecting from Bulgaria.
The conversation ranged from Melwin Pantzar's ice-free hockey to Francis Alonso's chartered boat, Oriol Paulí's fatherhood, and Marcelinho Huertas's rejuvenating enthusiasm. There was talk of Santi Yusta's older brothers, basketball advice from Gonzalo Corbalán and Juan Fernández, and the bewilderment of Jean Montero, who still doesn't understand why they call him 'The Problem': 'I always bring good vibes.'
The jokes didn't stop for the rest of the evening, as the players provided plenty of material: Andrew Albicy and his Twitch channel, Willy Hernangómez and his console driving setup, Dani Pérez's online business degree, and Ricky Rubio's love for the beach... and the pool. Walter Tavares recalled his struggles to fit into an aeroplane seat during the Afrobasket, Iván Aurrecoechea revealed his passion for 3x3 basketball, Stan Okoye bravely tried his hand at Spanish, and Rodions Kurucs moved the audience by remembering the best coach he ever had... his grandfather!
The event, which also served to present the documentary 'At 13,000 feet,' premiering this Wednesday (8 p.m.) on the acb's YouTube channel and on DAZN, concluded with the traditional group photo. This was followed by a concert from La Azotea, one of the winners of the Endesa Play emerging music talent contest, and a set by DJ Mickey Pavón. What a way to start a new season! The 2025-26 Liga Endesa is now a reality!
