Endesa inaugurates its renovated regional headquarters located in Seville

  • The mayor of Seville and Endesa's general manager for Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla visited these offices today, which are based on the Open Work philosophy.
  • This 1970 building is a benchmark of modern architecture that has led it to be included in the Docomomo catalogue. Before its construction, the site housed the company's steam power plant.
  • In addition to housing almost 40% of the energy company's employees in the region, its facilities house the Endesa Network Control Centre in Andalusia and Extremadura, from where the distribution network in the south of the region is operated.

The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, accompanied by the Managing Director of Endesa in Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta and Melilla, Rafael Sánchez Durán, attended the inauguration ceremony of Endesa's renovated headquarters in Andalusia today.

For just over a year, this 1970 building, an exponent of this centenary company with 130 years of history and a benchmark of post-war architecture in Seville, has undergone a complete refurbishment with the challenge of adapting this architecture to 21st century workspaces, with open designs to enable more collaborative and interdisciplinary work, following the "Open Work" philosophy.

The Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, stated that "I would like to thank Endesa for its continued commitment to this centre and for the investment it is constantly making in Seville, of which I, as Mayor of the city, could not be more proud and grateful". In addition, he added that "one of my priorities as Mayor is to attract investment to Seville and retain the companies that are already here".

"The history of Endesa in the southern territory is written in this building, from the steam power station at the beginning of the 20th century that was located in these very grounds, through the modernist office building inaugurated in 1970, to the modernisation that we are visiting today. With a renovation aimed at energy efficiency and Smart Work, we are adapting to the new times and, without losing sight of this journey, we are modernising the interior of this workspace that houses Endesa's most valuable resource, its people. It also houses a strategic facility, the Network Control Centre for the southern area", said Rafael Sánchez Durán, during the tour of the 5-storey building with a capacity for more than 1,200 employees.

The refurbishment carried out by the team of Sevillian architects from Ingravitto (Nuruk) has been carried out on more than 9,500 m2 spread over five floors above ground and a basement. The new working environment has increased the number of workplaces from 600 to around 850 thanks to the modern design with more interactive and collaborative open-plan spaces with less of a status difference.

In addition, the number of meeting rooms has doubled, with a total of 60 dedicated meeting spaces featuring the latest technology such as USB-C and wireless connectivity, Microsoft Teams Room panels, video conferencing and HDMI, and 33 phone boxes have been set up for noise reduction and acoustic comfort in workspaces.

Endesa's remodelled headquarters in Seville has also reduced the number of offices, in order to make more room for open-plan collaborative areas, and has rest rooms, changing rooms, waiting areas, lockers and a completely remodelled auditorium for around 100 people with advanced technology such as videoconferencing and audio for the media.

In addition, to promote sustainable mobility among employees, the car park has 38 spaces for electric vehicles, more than 150 spaces for bicycles and 20 for electric scooters. And with the philosophy of contributing to the reduction of emissions, Endesa employees in Seville also have a car-sharing service, cooperative taxi service and two-wheeled mobility service.

The lighting throughout the building is designed for maximum energy efficiency, thanks to LED technology and a DALI system for intelligent light control. There is also a state-of-the-art air-conditioning system. In addition, the facilities are monitored from systems with the latest technology that control the premises of Endesa's main work centres in Andalusia, Extremadura and the Canary Islands.

This building, constructed by four OTAISA architects, Felipe Medina Benjumea, Ángel Orbe Cano, Manuel Trillo de Leyva and Luis Fernando Gómez-Stern Sánchez, is included in the catalogue of the Foundation for the Documentation and Conservation of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Modern Movement (Docomomo), and is now an example of the new office model that Endesa is implementing as part of its commitment to reducing its ecological footprint. This approach is materialised through the reduction of energy consumption and waste generation, moving towards a digital office model that seeks to eliminate the use of paper.

In addition, this office concept seeks to improve the work environment and the well-being of employees by adopting measures that increase the functionality and comfort of spaces, encourage innovation and the exchange of ideas, and stimulate collaboration and cohesion between work teams. In this respect, digital systems are available to employees to book workspaces and workstations.

The Borbolla building, which combines past and future, is located on the site of the steam power station that supplied Seville at the beginning of the 20th century, and houses the Distribution Network Control Centre (CORE) and work teams that carry out activities at national level such as the Billing and Collection Centre (CEFACO), Telemanagement, and the Telesales Operations Centre (COTEL).
