Commitment, excellence and talent
Few circumstances convey the success of a sporting structure better than qualifying for the Olympic Games, and this summer Spanish basketball enjoys triple representation in Paris: both senior 5x5 national teams and the women’s team in the 3x3 format. A success whose value lies in the fact that it is not merely circumstantial.

Spain always competes for medals, for a place at the very top, and when our national teams achieve them we feel happy, proud, and celebrate the success. But the true objective of the structure of our basketball system is to provide our players with the highest level of competitiveness, placing at their disposal the best possible material and human resources for their development and growth, supported by technical teams of internationally recognised quality and experience. A scale of values that has turned us into “La Familia” around the world, and that gives us a way of being on the court, and off it, admired by other countries in our sporting environment.
All of this is built upon a training pyramid in which continuity is one of the fundamental pillars, and through which our players and teams enjoy an identity and values passed down from generation to generation, creating a unique sense of belonging and giving our teams their own distinctive Brand Spain. A pyramid and a continuity in which our clubs and the regional federations work alongside us, each within their own responsibilities and capabilities, but all driven by the highest level of ambition and a shared final objective. A team of which we are all part and which, moreover, has set itself—over the past year—the challenge of reaching half a million licences by 2030, more than ever before in our history. This is a figure we are on track to achieve and which would undoubtedly be as valuable as any of the many medals displayed in our trophy cabinets. A team that finds a special and unique boost in the relationships forged with partners and sponsors who, as in the case of Endesa, go beyond sponsorship to become something far more personal and committed: true members of La Familia, whom we can rely on in any situation.
The pyramid and continuity are also reflected in competitions and championships, especially in those involving the youth development categories, where our players take their first steps with the dream of reaching the elite, and which in recent months we have also expanded to the 3x3 format.
The result of all this is coordinated and collective work that adds up and makes us better, that has earned unanimous international recognition and that, summer after summer, translates into the success of the teams that represent it: our National Teams. It is common to see them on the podiums, and we hope this year will be no exception because medals, unquestionably, make the journey more solid and exciting. But above all, what we want is to see them compete and feel proud of doing so.
In this way, as we are experiencing, the inevitable generational change is not a phase of uncertainty or a cause for concern. On the contrary, we face it with the assurance of a job well done and the enthusiasm of everyone involved, and who have been involved, for many years now, in a gradual and carefully planned manner. All of this shows that #LaFamilia is not simply a hashtag, but the best possible definition of who we are. Because defending your country’s jersey, doing so for many years and, moreover, contributing to major successes is the highest aspiration any athlete can have.
Our secret, if there is one, lies in commitment, excellence, perseverance and talent. Values embodied like few others by our great captain, Rudy Fernández, of whom we are especially proud as we watch him write, in the coming days in Paris, one of the brightest chapters in the history of world basketball. His journey is the best possible example, one of the great role models for our young players who already wear, or will one day wear, the Spain jersey.
His enthusiasm and pride are the same enthusiasm and pride shared by those of us who work to make his dreams come true.
