- Endesa's renewable subsidiary, Enel Green Power España, will build the company's first solar plant in the province of Córdoba in Almodóvar del Río and it will have a capacity of 90 MW.
Endesa, through its renewables division Enel Green Power España (EGPE), has received an Environmental Impact Statement (DIA in Spanish) for the construction of Carbo, the company's first solar plant in the province. The installation, in which Endesa will invest €63 million, will be located in the municipalities of Almodóvar del Río, Fuente Palmera and Guadalcazar and will have 90 MW of installed power, which will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 16,236.01 tons of CO2 per year.
The Carbo photovoltaic park will follow the sustainable building site model involving the subsequent donation of materials and elements used during construction to the Town Councils of Almodóvar del Río, Fuente Palmera and Guadalcazar to be used by different entities.
Right from the planning stage, Endesa's project included preventive environmental measures that will be coordinated with the Natural Environment Management Service of the Territorial Delegation for Sustainable Development in Córdoba. These measures include the analysis of the local avifauna, the installation of nest boxes, population reinforcement of species such as the lesser kestrel, and improvement of habitats within the environment.
Endesa also plans to organise training courses within the field of renewables for unemployed people from the area, so they will be able participate in the construction of this installation and gain access to the growing renewable energy sector.
Obtaining an Environmental Impact Report (DIA) is one of the essential requirements to be able to build a renewable installation, and Endesa is now processing the necessary documentation to be able to start construction work in the second half of 2023.
