What the DHA rate is, and why it may be of interest to you
If you take a look at your electricity bill, you may come across some technical terms that you may never have heard of before. You may also see "peak" and "off-peak" and not know what they mean. In today's post we are going to explain what all these terms mean and why they affect you.
Have you ever heard of the hourly discrimination rate, or DHA in Spanish?
Of course you have, and it might even be the rate that you are on right now, but… Do you know what it means and what it entails?
What is the DHA or hourly discrimination rate?
It is a type of tariff that differentiates between a number of billing bands.
Basically, it is an alternative way of billing the hours of electricity consumption so there is a different price for the electricity depending on the time of day at which it is consumed.
In other words, you will be charged one price or another depending on the time when you use the electricity. These two time windows are called “punta” (peak) and “valle” (off-peak).
What time is peak and when is off-peak?
The following infographic shows you both of these visually. Remember that the peak/off-peak times change depending on the season of the year.
The off-peak period lasts for 14 hours and runs from 10 p.m. to 12 noon in winter and from 11 p.m. to 1 p.m. in summer. It corresponds to the period when electricity is cheapest.
The peak period lasts for 10 hours and runs from 12 noon to 10 p.m. in winter and from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. in summer. It corresponds to the time of day when electricity is the most expensive.
Why have a rate with hourly discrimination?
So as to save, if you are able to fit in with these schedules. Most of the rates with hourly discrimination use these periods and if you are able to adapt your lifestyle to fit these schedules, you will pay much less.
However, if you prefer to look for a different time discrimination that gives you more freedom, you can sign up for one of our rates that suits you.
Our Tempo Happy Rate, for example, allows you to choose 2 hours a day (or one full day a week) in which the electricity you use will be totally free of charge and in which you can concentrate your consumption in order to save.
Is the hourly discrimination rate worth it for me?
If you are able to adapt, yes, without a doubt.
However, if you do not have that flexibility or prefer to always pay the same, you can opt for Unique from Endesa, which is much more than a simple flat rate.
With Unique, you can save and have the peace of mind that comes from always paying the same amount. Use the energy, electricity and/or gas, that you need with having to worry, as you know that you will always pay the same amount, a single fixed monthly instalment.
And that's not all, if you manage to use your energy efficiently, you can pay even less. We’ll reward you with a discount on your next instalment.
