Elena Jiménez started refereeing basketball matches in lower categories and gradually climbed the ladder. Although she did not manage to reach the ACB League, her passion for basketball resulted in her studying journalism to maintain a relationship with the sport. She is currently deputy sports editor at RTVE, a position that has allowed her to enjoy the best era for Spanish basketball including such events as the Olympic Games and the World Cup in Japan. Her account is part of the Basket Girlz project, an initiative to establish why girls give up playing basketball prematurely between the ages 12 and 18 and take remedial action.
