In the context of the energy transition to a decarbonised economy, at Endesa we are promoting the change to an emission-free generation model, a process that includes the progressive closure of coal-fired power plants and the commitment to renewable energy.
To mitigate the social and economic impact of this change of model and facilitate a "just transition" in the local areas of plants that cease their activity, we have launched the Futur-e plans. These plans include a commitment to contribute to the search for new uses for the land of the old plants.
In December 2019 we applied to close the Litoral coal-fired thermal power plant. When the plant has closed, the site it occupies may house new industrial projects that will create jobs in the local area.
The Litoral plant is located in Carboneras (Almería), 75 km from Almería. The land that we make available for new industrial projects occupies 250,420 m2 of land, available from the first half of 2022, and has access to the electricity, natural gas and water network.
The site is linked to Almería by the A-7 motorway and the 341 national highway. Almería International Airport is 57 km away. The facilities of the port of Carboneras are available for the import or export of goods.
