Endesa's activities are undertaken respecting the environment and we are committed to preserving and making sustainable use of natural resources in line with circular economy principles, applying criteria for excellence.
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals
SDG 12: Responsible production and consumption
SDG 13: Climate action
For Endesa environmental excellence is an essential value in our business culture. That is why our activities are respectful with the environment and comply with the principles of sustainable development. We are firmly committed to preserving and making sustainable use of resources in line with circular economy principles, applying criteria for excellence.
We also extend this commitment to our suppliers, who are required to implement environmental policies based on these same principles, and which are applicable to all the processes right along the value chain (supply of raw materials, manufacturing processes, logistics, etc.) for the activities we undertake, always in accordance with our company's mission, outlook and principles.
With regard to compliance with our environmental commitment, we identify, assess and manage both the positive and the negative environmental impact of our activities, and strive to minimize those that are less beneficial and maximize those that are positive, by applying the basic principles included in our environmental policy.
We establish suitable management systems to achieve excellence based on ongoing improvement, aimed at preventing pollution and guaranteeing compliance with environmental legislation.
We make sustainable use of our energy and water resources and raw materials, by encouraging a reduction in the generation of waste, responsibly managing our products to guarantee maximum recovery, as well as measuring and minimizing the environmental impact by applying the best techniques and practices available, encouraging innovation and taking actions aimed at fighting against climate change.
The assessment of the environmental risks for our activity and the environmental certifications awarded by external entities help ensure the excellence of our environmental management which is an essential part of and in line with our corporate strategy. These certifications mean that there is regular and systematic identification, assessment and control of any environmental impact that may be generated by our installations and operations. We currently hold the following certificates:

The decarbonization of the energy mix and minimization of the environmental impacts from our activity are the two main areas in which we are working to promote a sustainable business model and reduce our direct environmental foot by 1% by 2025 (compared to 2022). The following graph summarizes our environmental targets for the coming years:
Endesa calculates its environmental footprint using a methodology based on the most relevant international references, including the guidelines developed by the European Union to calculate the environmental footprint for its organisations and products.
The environmental footprint is a multi-criteria measure of the company's environmental performance that evaluates the effects of the company's activities on the environment under the perspective of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) (ISO/TS 14072:2014 standard) or "cradle-to-grave analysis"; this means considering all stages from the extraction of raw materials to the management of products at the end of their useful life, through the stages of production and use.
The objectives of our environmental footprint are as follows:
In 2022, Endesa maintained its commitment to excellence in environmental sustainability while easily meeting the targets for reducing its environmental footprint included in the previous Strategic Plan. All this helped the organisation to reduce its environmental footprint by 50% compared to 2019.
