At Endesa, we are aware of the energy challenges that society is facing: it is necessary to cover citizens’ new energy needs and at the same time, respond to some environmental and efficiency requirements that are increasingly demanding. For that reason, we are leading the transition toward a totally decarbonised energy system in 2050, in line with the criteria of the national energy policy promoted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and with the commitment shared by all signatory countries of the agreements from the COP21 Paris Summit.
Within this context, last December, we submitted the request to close the coal plants in Andorra (Teruel) and Compostilla (León), given that the current regulatory and market conditions make it impossible to make the investments necessary so that these power plants comply with the new emissions limits set by the European Union, which will enter into force on 30 June 2020.
In parallel to this request, we have submitted plans for the future, intended to promote the development of economic activities and job creation in the areas of the two plants. As established in these plans, we are committed to relocate all employees of the plants and to give priority to the employees of the auxiliary companies in the contracting to undertake the works to close and dismantle both plants, in addition to develop the new renewable installations that will be carried out in the areas of the two plants.
Futur-e in Compostilla
In the case of Compostilla, we want to go even farther Within the framework of the future plan submitted for this plant, and in line with the Futur-e project carried out by Enel in Italy, we want to invite companies, institutions and other public and private agents to submit investment and job creation projects in the space occupied by the plant and its neighbouring areas.
The E-voluciona programme is a participatory, transparent and open tender so that anyone interested can submit a reconversion project that generates economic activity in the area. The projects will be evaluated by an independent committee, which will include the representation of regional and local agents.
All of the information about the location, infrastructures, installations and support of the public administrations can be consulted on the tender brochure of projects for the industrial area of the electricity production plant of Compostilla (León).
