We will explain the steps you need to take if you wish to take advantage of this new type of consumption called self-consumption.
If you decide to install solar panels in your home and wish to be compensated for the surplus energy you do not use, here is a step by step guide:
1. Install the solar panels
It is much easier than it used to be to install photovoltaic solar panels and it is now within anyone's reach.
Here in Endesa we can take care of everything. Forget about paperwork and complications. Sign up for our Endesa X solar solution. It includes:
- Immediate customised study: We will tell you what you need and how you need it.
- Solar Simply Tariff with compensation for surplus
- 12-year guarantee
- Fully comprehensive insurance for 10 years
- Financing up to 10 years.
- Maintenance and Support Service (OPTIONAL): We will notify you of any faults in your installation and, once a year, we will review it in full.
2. Obtain the permits
These are the different procedures and papers necessary to be able to benefit from the compensation of surpluses. It is an essentially administrative affair that involves municipal and regional authorities.
Once the paperwork has been approved, it is the Autonomous Community that is responsible for transferring the data for your photovoltaic installation to your electricity distributor. The distributor then notifies your marketer. If you have doubts about the role of each, we will here explain what a distributor does and what a marketer does.
But why worry about all these procedures? Leave it to us, we will take care of everything:
3. Contract a tariff with compensation for surpluses
In order to be able sell electricity you need to contract an electricity tariff that includes compensation for surplus energy.
Tariffs such as Solar Simply enable you to benefit in your electricity bill from the energy produced by your home solar panels that you do not use.
This tariff is based on turning these surpluses into discounts with regard to consumption in your electricity bill. The power section however remains the same and this you will always have to pay. If you have any doubts with regard to the consumption section and the power sections, we will explain this in the section how to understand your Endesa bill.
Depending on your surpluses, we could reach a maximum discount of 100% in the consumption section. In other words: Pay 0 euros for your electricity consumption.
4. To this we can add the tax benefits of installing solar panels
As well as being able to sell the electricity from your solar panels, another important source of savings in the long term are the tax benefits from using renewable energies.
Almost all city/town councils currently offer discounts on municipal taxes for the installation of solar panels.
If you install solar panels, there may be a reduction of up to 50% on property tax.
5. Keeping solar panels at full capacity
Solar panels, like any other device, require maintenance to keep them running at full capacity.
It would be no use taking all the necessary steps to "sell" electricity by installing solar panels, if over the years the panels stop working as well as at the beginning.
This why we always recommend installers who offer a guarantee, even fully comprehensive insurance.

We all end up winning
Electric self-consumption has advantages for all involved:
- You: There are benefits in your electricity bill, plus tax advantages such as discounts on property tax.
- Everybody: The whole planet will benefit from consuming and producing clean energy. There is much talk about sustainable energy being the energy of the future, but we need to start making it the energy of the present.
Taking advantage of the surpluses from your self-consumption installation means much more than saving. It is making a contribution to a project that will enlighten us all.
