How to cancel your service with Endesa

1.  What does a cancellation mean?

Although it might seem obvious, it is important to remember that requesting a cancellation implies disconnecting the supply and means that the house or premises will be left without electricity or gas.

• If you are the one leaving: bear in mind that if someone is going to come after you, they will need energy and will not have it. And it will take them a few days without electricity and/or gas to reconnect what you cancelled.
• If you are the one coming: you are going to need electricity and/or gas immediately, so you are the first person interested in a cancellation not being requested.

2.  Why is changing the contract holder usually better?

If the house or premises is going to have a new tenant or a new owner, we advise you to change the name on the contract instead of a cancellation. This will avoid inconvenience and unnecessary expenses.

The process is fast, simple and absolutely free. Both the person leaving and the person coming in can ask for the name on the contract to be changed. All that is needed is the address of the house or premises and some details of the new contract holder. Specifically:

• Name, surnames, tax number (NIE or CIF) and contact telephone number.
• Current account for bill payment (20 digits).
• Copy of the deed or rental agreement.

3.  How much does it cost to cancel?

The cancellation process is free. It is requested and the supply point is left inactive. But when it has to be reconnected, you will have to ask for reconnection, and this does come at a cost.

Therefore, if you know that the house or premises is going to have a new tenant, it is best not to cancel a supply. The reconnection costs depend on many factors, such as the power you want to contract or the time that this supply point has been disconnected (it costs more if it has been inactive for 3 years in the case of electricity and 5 years in the case of gas):

Electricity

• Access rights: paid when contracting the new supply.
• Extension rights: paid if it has been inactive for more than 3 years.
• Connection rights: paid when the electrical installation is connected to the grid.
• Verification fees: paid when the installation is checked.
• Guarantee deposit: as established in article 79 of Royal Decree 1955/2000, this is the amount to be paid, when signing up, for an amount equal to the theoretical monthly billing of fifty hours of use of the contracted power.

If we assume that the house/premises has been disconnected for less than 3 years, we are talking about a reconnection cost of about 77 euros for low powers (for example: 3.45 kW) or 190 euros for high powers (for example: 9.2 kW).

You may also need to factor in the cost of the electricity bulletin or C.I.E. if more than 20 years have passed since it was last checked. The price of the electricity bulletin is not established and ranges between 60 and 300 euros

Gas

• Supply rights: paid only if it has been inactive for 5 years or more.
• Reconnection rights: paid when contracting the piped gas supply service. These rights include the connection and verification of the installations.
• Guarantee deposit: as established in article 79 of Royal Decree 1955/2000, this is the amount to be paid, when signing up, for an amount equal to the theoretical monthly billing of fifty hours of use of the contracted power.

If we are in a situation where the supply point is going to be cancelled but reconnected in the future, cancellation may not be the best option.
