  • The 11th edition of Metering Europe, which will bring together more than 2,000 industry experts, focuses on new metering technologies that allow for remote reading and remote management in general. ENDESA, the Spanish benchmark in this field, is the conference's main sponsor.

ENDESA will showcase its remote management solution at the Metering Europe 2009 conference to be held in Barcelona 6-8 October.

The 11th annual Metering Europe conference, which will bring together over 2,000 experts including electricity, gas and water distribution companies, as well as meter suppliers, public bodies and other specialists in the field, focuses on new metering technologies that allow for remote reading and remote management in general. ENDESA, the Spanish benchmark in this field, is the conference's main sponsor.

The remote management system to be presented by ENDESA was developed jointly with ENEL, the company's main shareholder and Europe's number two utility. This system, equipped with the latest-generation technology, will mark a huge leap forward in customer service, provide value-added services and optimise energy efficiency. The system's modular design allows for the addition of future applications of smart networks.

Via remote management, customers have access to detailed consumption data and costs almost instantly and can choose the rates that best suit their needs. In addition, all commercial transactions can be carried out remotely and in real time for customers' convenience.

ENDESA is the first Spanish company to originate a remote management system in line with Spanish and EU directives on this matter.

In addition, ENDESA and ENEL are to make the PLC communication protocol called SITRED, which was developed by Enel, available to the industry in a bid to contribute proactively to the specification of open communication solutions for their standardisation across Europe. This protocol is a new-generation technology based on the technology currently used in the remote control system operated by ENEL for its 32 million customers in Italy.

Replacement of meters will begin by the end of 2010 and ENDESA's entire network in Spain, comprising more than 13 million meters, will be fully remote-controlled by the end of 2015. In this way, ENDESA will have complied with the legal deadline for operating the system and replacing meters three years early.

ENDESA, the main sponsor of the 11th annual Metering Europe conference, will conduct the opening session, with a speech by José Luis Marín López-Otero, Chairman of CEO of Endesa Red. The company will also participate actively in various conferences, one in conjunction with the Catalonia Energy Institute (Instituto Catalán de la Energía) with a direct demonstration of how the remote management solution operates at a stand in the exhibition area.
