ENDESA APPOINTS RAFAEL MIRANDA AS CHAIRMAN AND JOSÉ ANTONIO GUTIÉRREZ AS GENERAL MANAGER OF THE ENDESA FOUNDATION ENDESA appointed Rafael Miranda Robredo as Chairman of the Endesa Foundation and José Antonio Gutiérrez Pérez as its General Manager at the meeting of the foundation’s trustees in Madrid today. At the same time, Rodolfo Martín Villa was named Honorary Chairman of the foundation. Rafael Miranda was hired by ENDESA as a General Manager by Feliciano Fuster in 1987, a post he held until he was appointed CEO in February 1997. As CEO, he successfully engineered the company’s privatisation and international expansion; during his tenure, ENDESA has had operations in as many as 15 countries, supplying power to more than 24 million customers. As ENDESA’s most senior executive, he turned a generation company with EBITDA of Euro 594 million into Spain’s leading utility, the largest private utility in Latin America and a leading player in Europe, with operations in Italy, France, Poland, Greece and Ireland and EBITDA in 2008 of Euro 6,895 million. His post as CEO was ratified by the company’s new owners after Enel and Acciona took control of ENDESA in 2007 and then again by the company’s executive team after Acciona’s departure. Since March 2009, he has had maximum executive powers as CEO jointly with the company’s Executive Vice-Chairman, Andrea Brentan. In all these years, Mr. Miranda has also had the highest representation in the European utility sector. He was Chairman of Eurelectric, the association of the electricity industry in Europe, until last year and is now its Honorary Chairman. At different times he has been Chairman of the Spanish Energy Club (Club Español de la Energía), Chairman of Sevillana de Electricidad and FECSA, Vice-Chairman of Aguas de Barcelona and Unión FENOSA and Vice-Chairman of the Spanish Committee for the World Energy Council. He currently presides over the University of Burgos’ governing board. José Antonio Gutiérrez was ENDESA’s General Manager for Aragón until November 2007. He will be taking the place of José de la Rosa Alemany as the Endesa Foundation’s General Manager. Mr. Gutiérrez (Madrid, 1953) has a degree in economics and business studies from the Madrid Autonomous University. He has developed his professional career at ENDESA, joining the company in 1976. Among other posts, he has been Chairman of Gas Aragón, Aragón de Cable and Gestión de Aguas de Aragón, Manager of the CEO’s office and a Director of Auna Cable, Gesa and Saltos del Nansa. |
