ENDESA has a significant position in the main regasification plant projects being developed or in the project phase: Reganosa (Galicia), Sagunto (Valencia Region) and Gascan (Canary Islands).
ENDESA also holds 12% of MEDGAZ, an enterprise to promote the study and development of a gas pipeline between Algeria and Spain.
MEDGAZ was created in 2001 to research, design, build and operate the gas pipeline which will link Algeria to Europe via Spain. It is a consortium formed by seven energy companies which are recognised worldwide for their technical and financial credentials: CEPSA and Sonatrach (with 20% each) BP, ENDESA, Gaz de France, Iberdrola and Total (with 12% each).
With an initial capacity to transport 8 millon m3. MEDGAZ will transport natural gas from Beni-Saf, on the Algerian coast, to Almería. It will be 200 km long, on the Mediterranean sea-bed at a maximum depth of 2,160 metres
MEDGAZ is a strategic project for Algeria, Spain and the rest of Europe. As a result, it has been approved by the European Commission as a "Project of Priority Interest within Trans-European Networks in the Energy Sector". In Spain, the Ministry of Industry has recently classified MEDGAZ as a "priority project", for considering it an important pipeline for the seccurity of supply.
