ENDESA is active in the gas distribution sector via ENDESA Gas, the umbrella for ENDESA's natural gas distribution and tariff sales business interests in Spain.
ENDESA Gas sold 7,092 GWh of gas to 375,897 consumers in 2007.
ENDESA Gas operates in 7 Spanish autonomous communities and is authorised to distribute piped gas in over 250 towns and cities.
ENDESA Gas held shareholdings in Portuguese gas distribution companies, PORTGAS and SETGAS, supplying piped gas in Porto, several towns in the north of Portugal, as well as in Setúbal and a further nine towns in the south of the country. In January 2006, ENDESA signed an agreement to transfer to Electricidade de Portugal (EDP) its 49% stake in NQF and, consequently, its shareholdings in the two Portuguese gas distributors mentioned above.
