Generation

ENDESA operates its generation activity through ENDESA Generación.

In 2007, ENDESA's generation assets achieved a total net output of 88,181GWh in ordinary regime, up 2% compared with 2006, with a market share of 33.1%. It also registered 2,877GWh in renewables and CHP.

It has competitive and adequately diversified generation assets, resistant to the volatility of fuel prices and periods of low rainfall.

ENDESA's conventional thermal output, especially that fuelled by coal, is highly competitive and plays a vital role in meeting mainland demand.

ENDESA's total installed capacity in Spain is 24,490 MW, of which 22,860 MW  -which does not include Nuclenor´s capacity- relates to the Ordinary Regime and 2,435 MW renewables/CHP, which amounts to 1.630 MW for consolidation purposes. Of the Ordinary Regime capacity 18,342 MW relate to the mainland electricity system and 4,518 MW to the non-mainland systems: Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.

ENDESA's total generation in Spain and Portugal in 2007 was 91,058 GWh.

If ENDESA's net output figure is compared with the demand from its markets in Spain, it is clear that the company has a high level of capacity to meet demand from electricity generated by its own facilities.

Furthermore, ENDESA is capable of generating over 75,800 GWh without using petroleum derivatives.

When generating electricity ENDESA's main aim is to optimise its competitive position, producing at the minimum cost, maximising the availability of its equipment and facilities, guaranteeing the safety of its workforce and assets, constantly underpinning all this with a respect for the environment.
