ENDESA is the leading company in the Spanish electricity system. Its installed capacity, customer base and total energy supplied annually are the largest in the sector.
With an installed capacity of 24,490 MW, ENDESA sold 40,629 GWh in 2007 on the deregulated market and 72,746 GWh on the regulated market, to over 11 million customers in total. The Company achieved a market share of 43.6% of total sales to final customers.
During this period, output was 91,058 GWh, giving ENDESA a market share of 38.3% in ordinary regime generation.
Nuclear (at 22,906 GWh) and hydroelectric (at 7,149 GWh) output represented 41% of ENDESA's mainland generation mix compared with 34.3% for the rest of the sector, and the load factor at its thermal facilities was also better than the average of its competitors: 70.1% compared with 49.8%, respectively.
Output with fuel-gas was 380 GWh. The rest of ENDESA's technologies have also seen a rise in performance. Generation with coal amounted to 34,802 GWh, which represents growth of 7%. Combined cycle plants (at 8,080GWh) have increased their generation by 25.64%.
TEJO ENERGIA
ENDESA participates in the Portuguese generation market through a 35% holding in Tejo Energia, a company that exploits the Pego thermal power station (Portugal) delivering 600 MW of power.
This power station has sold its energy in the long term to the tied Portuguese system.
ENDESA also owns 50% of Sociedades Térmica Portuguesa, Portugal´s leading cogeneration company with 58.6 MW of installed capacity in cogeneration and renewables. It also wholly owns Finerge which has gross capacity of 233 MW.
